MMORPG

I remember my first mmorpg, it was of course Everquest.  It was like stepping into a new world.  It was fun, challenging, and a great escape.  I had an Iksar shaman and my husband had an Iksar Monk.  I would sit in the Field of Bones and buff people for fun. Yeah I"m kinda strange that way.  My husband and I even had a GM marry us in game.  I still have such fond memories of that game.  The time sink, and loss of levels was too much for me, so we both moved on to a new game.

We then began our adventures in Dark Age of Camelot.  Oh it seemed like an easy game, compared to Everquest.  You couldn't lose levels, you leveled so much faster.  Questing was fun, there was a really great sense of community.  The PVP was awesome.  I don't think a game has topped DAoC's PVP yet.  Keep sieges, keep repairs, shoot you could even pour boiling oil of attackers.  It was just an all around good time.  Then the developers, as most games with pvp do, brought out the nerf bats.  They would nerf classes to where they were unplayable, so once again I moved on to a new game.

Enter the reining MMORPG king, World of Warcraft.  My husband and I were lucky enough to get into the original beta for the game.  It was amazing, fun, and easy. The pvp was not so great but the questing and world itself was just so mind blowing for the time.  As a bonus the world and characters were cartoony.  Which I enjoy, I know many don't.  They prefer realism but not me.  And through the past 3 expansions, they have only improved.  The questing has gotten better and funnier.  I so enjoy humor.  They've added flying mounts, more pvp battle grounds, and more content for casual gamers (like me).  I have taken breaks from WOW over the years.  I get bored or am just to busy to play.  I keep coming back though.

What I have learned over the years of playing these games, is this:  I enjoy these games not for the uber gear, or the insane graphics, or any of that.  I enjoy these games for the community, for the friends I make and keep from these games.  Yes they are a waste of time, in the end, but it sure can be a fun waste of time;)
